Consumer Sentiment Upbeat
Tariffs continue to be an issue, but U.S. consumers are upbeat. According to the latest University of Michigan Survey of Consumer Sentiment, June sentiment improved 16% month-over-month. It was the first monthly jump in six months, but the index remains down 11.3% year-over-year.
Both short- and long-term inflation expectations fell. However, the study indicates ongoing downside risk, reluctance to make big ticket purchases, and concerns about business conditions.
The survey was launched in 1940 and includes a minimum of 500 participants each month.
