One Year Ago in ERCOT
It was a year ago this week that Winter Storm Uri hit Texas, freezing energy infrastructure and leading to more than 50,000 MW of lost generation. It was the single biggest event to hit the electricity sector. Some estimates place the economic impact at nearly $300 billion, including lost income in addition to long term reduction in economic output. ERCOT has announced a series of reforms, many of which are still in development. Unlike last year, the low temps this week are nearly double that of last year’s highs.
